The XZ-1's sensor is half the size of a Micro Four Thirds sensor, so that f/1.8-2.5 is equivalent to a f/7.2-f/10 on full frame (very similar to the M43 kit zooms). It's a bit longer than most of the kit zooms though.

I would add this general advice for the OP: if you do not plan on owning multiple lenses, a current generation high end compact (like the RX100 or LX7 (or the upcoming XZ2)) might be a better option than a Micro Four Thirds camera with kit zoom. The kit zoom really will not show Micro Four Thirds in the best light; the compacts are nearly as good and much more, well, compact...
