I would suggest Lightroom; it's much less expensive than it used to be and is very straightforward for basic adjustments.

In addition, it will allow you to catalogue all of your photos to make them much easier to organise and there are countless online tutorials if you have any problems or want to delve deeper.

If you shoot jpeg+raw you will be able to compare directly the advantages that raw has over jpeg; buying Lightroom at this point would allow you to explore the programme and find out for yourself whether raw offers the benefits you are after.

As an aside, I wouldn't be tempted to shoot raw alone. Having jpegs as well as raw on your card, at least whilst you're away from home, would mean you could immediately share shots with friends and family or print photos via commercial printers, where raw alone could be problematic.
