Thom Hogan's lens survey
4

What you said you wanted.  It seems only appropriate to discuss it here because this forum reflects the users that were most inclined to respond to the survey.

I think this observation of Thom's near the end sums up the survey nicely:

"So, could Nikon make most of you happy? Yes, by simply producing six DX lenses: 8-16mm, 16-50mm, and 50-150mm zooms, plus 10mm, 24mm, and 58mm primes. It doesn't look like rocket science. In fact, that's pretty much common sense, as it matches a base set that FX has."

My own take is that when someone says they want their focal lengths back to what they were before DX, it's all about the missing primes.

Personally, I think a 16mm prime makes more sense than a 10mm prime, but there is a wisdom to crowds that cannot be denied, and it appears from Thom's survey that an ultra wide rectilinear 10mm would be more popular and might replace or augment a lot of 10.5mm fisheye lenses.
