Both lenses are very good, but suit different purposes.

I love the 35mm, but I would recommend not relying on the autofocus for street photography. Instead, use manual focus and pre-focus the distance you want at f11 or whatever aperture gives you the right depth of focus. The X-E1 has a useful scale that shows what will be in focus. Then there will be no delay when taking your shot.

It's good for street photography, as it is small and discreet (especially in black), although the shutter is louder than the leaf shutter in my X100, but still quieter than in a DSLR.

I found the EVF is fine in bright sunlight, but don't wear polarising sunglasses
