Its not nice to cast doubt over the many customers who have experienced this AF problem. Why insult them?

Its not like this is an unknown problem.

Why do you say it is not an "unknown problem"?

It is "unknown" in the senses nobody at depreview seems to have posted an image using sensible testing showing it, and at least 86 have posted images showing they did not test sensibly.

One advantage of dpreview is the opportunity to look at actual images - from the few who post them.

It should be well known outer AF detects only in the vertical direction, and AF is more prone to AF failure with wide angles - Nikon confirm this in 14-24 and 16-35 lens instructions.

I do not think it is insulting, based on 86 test done to a poor standard and none done to a good standard posted at dpreview, to take the view a lot of what is reported seems to be poor testing rather than an equipment fault.

If there were 3, 2 or even 1 image at dprview using good testing technique then "insulting" might be relevant. So far there seem to be none.

Many problems turn out to be a lack of intimate knowledge of complex modern camera equipment.
