Tip no. 1:  The highest ISO with cleanest output I have used is ISO800.  Noise is virtually not existent, even when there is limited light.

Tip no. 2:  Use a tripod, turn off IS.

Tip no. 3:  Practice before you do actual shoot of the game.

Tip no. 4:  Use a monitor bigger than the one on your 7D.  There are a number of external or field monitors available out there.  You will need this to aid your manual focus, among others.
