F4 is not F2.8...some thoughts

And again, folks are talking about blurred backgrounds that can look good at F4, but fast glass is not just about bokeh. It's also being able to set a focus zone and control composition. 2.8 allows for this to a greater degree.

The folks who want to believe that F4 is "close" to f2.8 will find a way to support it, but it's not the case. There is NO substitute for fast glass.

If I shot landscapes and such I guess I wouldn't hesitate to spend that much on a F4 zoom and the pricey foot. But for everything else I'd buy a used 70-200 VRI or VRII or save for a new one.
