I did some tests regarding the best aperture. Short summary: best center sharpness is already at f/4. Best corner sharpness at f/5.6 (or f/8 for the extreme corners at certain distances).

From f/5.6 to f/8 there is already a slight but insignificant reduction of sharpness due to diffraction. At f/11 the diffraction effect is significant. I will try to use mainly the apertures f/4, f5.6 and f/8 and only when a certain DOF is needed f/2.8 or f/11. And I will never use f/16.
