Wet cleaning sensor? Experience, good or bad idea?

I have noticed (on N7) about 8 spots that are on sensor and do not vibrate or blow off.
One of the spots is nearly 1mm across and reflects light very differently than the sensor - it is a dried patch of something I fear.

I am trying to recall if I changed lenses anywhere downwind of a condenser unit in France that was sprayed with water mist containing Lavender Oil - that might explain it but I can only remember being paranoid about the UV filter getting messy.

It shows worst at high-f, small aperture and is annoyingly visible, it can't be seen wide open.

Is it mad to even contemplate a DIY clean?

Are the kits any good?

Might I damage the surface (this is only IR filter glass, right?)

Is there a professional service available London area? (I do not want to send the camera away)
