I certainly agree that such samples should be without any sharpening whatsoever.  Softness is also relative.  For me, they look a bit better than the Olympus 12-50 kit lens, but I was hoping for more.  They lack the snap and crispness that comes from a sharp lens, that you cannot add by sharpening.  I.e. sharpening cannot add detail, just adds hard edges.  Anyway: I think there are many like myself looking at this camera / lens combination.  It's clear the camera body and sensor delivers the goods - and if the lens does as well, then it's a super value proposition.  If the lens is merely good by kit lens standards, then it's still great for people to select fuji, but not necessarily switch form m4/3 for example.
