Answered that question myself... Ouch!  The thing buried my quad core for a long time trying to test it with a large image.

It would seem the best approach is work with a very small crop of your image until you have found the correction parameters and then allow it to crunch the full image.

Obviously you would only do this for an image you simply didn't want to lose due to a bit of blur.

Interesting stuff nonetheless.
