28-300 is indeed very versatile lens that makes, in some extend, a very nice (heavy and expensive, looks cool) point and shoot out of D800/E cameras IMHO... but why buy 36mp camera to downgrade quality with this lens back to 12mp? Do not flame me, it's just an expression...

Here is gallery shot with 28-300... IMHO very nice lens performance...

This one shot with 24-120... Kinda the same, right?

But when I compared them side by side - I've seen a big difference...

Again - IMHO - if you got D800/E - get better lens... at least 24-120 and something like new 70-200 F4 or Tamron 70-300VC... Otherwise - look at P7700... This is exactly what I am thinking for my Christmas gift... LOL...
