F1 Race ... Rent an L Tele Zoom

Hi all,

I will be at the F1 race in Austin in November. The camera restrictions are "cameras and lenses less than 10" long". The rule is vague as to whether the lens has to be less than 10" long or the camera and lens combo has to be under that length.

My best body is a T1i (I'm not really interested in renting a better body for the event as we'll be dealing with daylight).

The 70-300L is safely short enough. The 100-400 would be pushing it , but it would probably be OK ... until I hit someone with it in the grandstands.

The question is: Should I rent a L tele or should I just go with the 55-250 and live with its limitations?

Its not so much a matter of cost as of weight and hassle. My priority is to enjoy the race, not get insanely stunning shots, which you really can do only so much of from the grandstands.

This will be the first motor race where I am taking photos.

Reason for not asking in the lens forum: people here are more down-to-earth on photography priorities.

Thanks for the input.
