14 months at Mawson Station is a long time.

You certainly want a backup body, maybe two.

I haven't tried to locate Mawson on a map, but I'm guessing it's colder and drier than the Antarctic Peninsula, scene of the photo expedition wet 5D fiasco.

My son spent three months at Cape Crozier with two 20Ds and was perfectly happy with them. He's had many photos published from that trip.

I'd be inclined to take a pair of 7Ds and a suitable assortment of lenses. Be sure to take extra batteries.
