Re: baptism with D7K tips

I recently shot in a poorly lit church and using an 85 at f/1.8 i was at 1600 on my D7k which was fine.  My wife was there with a D50 using an 18-200 at about f/5.6.  The D50 only goes to 1600 ISO and her shutters were at 1/5!!! I told her to just stop shooting!
Do you have a tripod or monopod you can use?  If the 18-105 has VR and you use a monopod, you could feasably go down to somthing like 1/20 (i've gotten useable shots lower then that but they were of non moving subjects) but if anyone moves you're screwed...
A trick i've used a few times is you set your shutter as low as you're comfortable with and ISO as high as you're comfortable with and bring it up in post.  I know i can easliy get 2 stops in LR with no problem.  3 stops is borderline and 4 i go to black and white.  (interestingly i can only get about 1 stop out of the D50!)  BTW this is assuming you're shooting RAW.
Good luck!
