There are sharp areas in that photo - in between the needles. That is a tough subject to focus on - firstly because it is curved, as others pointed out, but also because you were shooting it at fairly close range, such that even at f/3.2 your depth of field is quite thin. You need to stop down a bit more if you want a wider depth of field.  The other issue is that it is very difficult to focus on a cactus at close range because the needles are so thin. Is the focal point going to be at the tip of the needle, or at the base, on the trunk of the cactus? Again, depth of field will help there.   Lastly, expect to sharpen in post. As others have mentioned, the default settings are fairly soft, so that you don't get halo artifacts from over-sharpening and also don't exaggerate noise. You can increase the default sharpness in your picture style but you're best off leaving it as is and sharpening in post.
