I'm trying to get more distance without buying a new lens. Any suggestions? TIA

Are you sure you want to do that? You can buy a 2x extender but one from Canon will cost about the price of your lens you have now and will degrade the IQ slightly but the most detrimental effect will be when you realize your F5.6 now becomes a F11 lens.  Might want to reconsider just adding a longer lens to your collection.
