Besides what's already been stated, I think the biggest factor is live view. If you are just starting out, then you probably will be dealing with natural light most of the time. The live view feature shows you in real time what your end result is. What you see is what you get. It's a very neat feature in that it doesn't break your rhythm while you are shooting.

Are you mainly interested in interior design photography?

As for lenses, I would suggest to get the kit lens (18-55). It's so cheap - $100. It's pretty decent and optically better than the kit lenses of canon and nikon. During that time you can figure out what focal length that you often shoot at. From there, you can start investing in good lenses. Alternatively you can skip the kit lens, and go for the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. That is around $400 on ebay.
