Plane spotting in Asia, pics

Never went plane spotting before, but at my recent trip to Taipei I learned about that nice place at Songshan International Airport.

Heard about that place before and decided to give it a try. Took my A55 and the Sigma 17-70 OS along with the beercan 70-210 4.

Songshan lies in the middle of Taipei and it is not the main airport. However, it has only one runway and is getting busy in these days. You can stay just behind the fence where planes line up for take off, also not far away from the touch down point.

And that means that planes come close, very close to you.
Incoming traffic will pass only a few feet above your head before landing.

Make sure to click the pics for larger size.

MD 90 Uni Air, note the different colour at the engine intake

B 737 China Airlines, this is the view at landing planes, moments later..

...that same plane will be only a few feet above your head (this is no crop)

B 767 Japan Air Lines, I like the clock springs at the gear

MD 83 Far Eastern Air Transport, radar tower at the right

ATR 42 Trans Asia Airways taxiing

A 330 Eva Air on its way for take off, I was lucky to see this Hello Kitty plane

EMB 190 Mandarin Airlines

B 767 ANA, the captain is looking at me (just kidding)

A330 China Airlines approaching

C 130 Hercules, Songshan is also an Air Force Base

MD 90 Uni Air waiting for the final go, interesting engine exhaust

My A55 behaved flawless, did not show the overheat warning even with 6fps in the asian humidity.

It was just so much fun shooting there, because you are in the middle of the action.

But pics can not give you even a glimpse of the impressions standing behind these jet engines roaring at full thrust for take off. That smell, that thunder, this feeling of pure power which will nearly blow you away...

Do you also have pics to share?
