A good sample of the 15-85 should peform superbly, pretty much up with any L lens on a crop camera. In my experience it doens't need any pampering and it gets it right 99% time. I use manual select spot AF. It is probably my most reliable focusing lens, even ahead of my 70-200L. Never needed MFA.

Here is an example test comparing my 15-85 against a friend's brand new 24-70L II - because we suspect his 24-70 might be 'off'. But as you can see the 15-85 is far from 'off'. Maybe you've got a poor sample (does happen)?

Focus point was on key in the shield emblem top of label.

I hope you are joking, and not seriously suggesting this image proves how good your 15-85 is. I can see the border/corner resolution is perfect

If the 15-85 is ahead of your 70-200L your L is slacking. I got both. And between 70-85 the EF-S is simply no match in terms of contrast and colours let alone build quality and AF.

Cheers Mike

I also have both. I intepreted this as a discussion on sharpness rather than other measures. See here for yourself evidence that max sharpness/MTF/resolution of both lenses is very similar - in fact 15-85 is slightly better than 70-200 (max score 2,548 vs 2,542).
