Try some shots with your 35mm 1.8 DX at 2.8 ish but in FX mode, and see if the vignetting is acceptable. Try each stop and see what you get.

Use the same lens on the same subject in DX mode, and see which makes the "better" image.

I tried this, and was pleased with how well the DX mode worked (but I upgraded from a D80, which had similar MP to D600 in DX) as well as how I could crop out vignetting in FX mode and still have a nice image.

However, I will not use the 35mm for long and will try to find a better FX lens (maybe the 24-85 VR) in that range.
