RX100 Tips, please add your ideas

A few thoughts (tips?) after 2 months with the RX100. Please add your thoughts to enable a summary of ideas to be prepared.

  • For Watercolor and Illustration effects, apply after taking photos. You then retain the untouched photo if required. After transferring photos to the computer, press Playback (no need to turn the camera on), select the required photo, press Menu .. Playback 2 .. Picture Effect. Watercolor or Illustration can then be applied.
  • Photos taken on the RX100 can be transferred from the computer back to the Memory card and Watercolor or Illustration can be applied at any time.
  • For Macro it is best if the lens is set at the 28mm position. The shortest distance is the 5 cm compared to 55 cm at the Tele end.
  • If the image quality is other than L and Clear Image Zoom and Digital Zoom are both set to off, you can zoom greater than 3.6x, to 5.1x, with no deterioration in the image quality (manual p.36)
  • For differences between Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto, see the Manual p.42.
  • For low light situations 'Anti Motion Blur' in Scene mode is probably the best option. The alternative is MultiFrame in the ISO setting.
  • In P mode Program shift will work, providing the flash mode setting is not changed (manual p.48)
  • If DMF is selected for Focus mode, the Control Ring will not allow Scene selection in Scene mode as the Control Ring is then used to focus.
  • Memory, to Register settings, use Menu 5, not the Mode dial.
  • Memory, to Recall registered settings, use MR on the Mode dial.
