I hear ya and thanks for taking the time with my various threads.  All settings were the same whether using the prime or zoom (or close to it).  So all things being equal the "prime" IQ really pops while the zoom was really good.  I processed pics on Sunday morning from volleyball with a prime and with the zoom in both RAW and JPEG.  I got great shots with the zoom and some stunners with the prime.

I think that the zoom would definitely be a "better" choice for many reasons when working a room at an event.  Maybe when money's not an issue I'll revisit the zoom, but I think I'm going to have to stick with primes and their limits for the image quality.

Definitely don't rule out me being an idiot, but I'm going to travel light for awhile.  Thanks again.
