Why is XE-1 EVF slow?

From what I've read the EVF in the XE-1 is quite good from an IQ perspective. However its refresh rate leaves a bit to be desired. Why is that?

Is it because Fuji wanted to use the same chipset of the X-Pro1 and at the time of design the X-Pro1 was not designed/built for great EVF performance? or... Is it because of the compute-performance required to demosaic and process the sensor info/data (to display on the EVF) too much for the currently available chips?

High performance EVFs require fast/wide data pipelines, fast chips and great compute engines. I imagine that this will be an achilles heel of a system which requires serious processing.
