Re: GPS with G1x

Yes, Amazon have it but you'll notice they cannot ship it outside the US.

Besides which, it is too expensive to buy just to try (though we non-Americans are amazed at the level of try-and-return you guys do). But if you are in the US one would think you would be able to find a retailer with it in stock, or willing to get it in, to try with this camera. (Probably should verify it on a 5DMk3 first). Try it both ways: on the hotshoe; and with USB connection (but off the hotshoe).

It seems unlikely to work without Canon firmware on the particular camera. But the rest of us would be grateful if you or someone in a major city were to find some retailer who knows what they are talking about to resolve this. (I must admit pessimism; I suspect retailers don't get much access to the appropriate level of techs in companies like Canon.) But still, the GP-E2 is new (since March), works on three EOS cameras and with the two methods of connection is designed to be flexible, and one feels it would be relatively trivial to enable it to work on the G1X. But my pessimism builds as this camera and the GP-E2 approach one year old with no news. OTOH it took more than 4 months before the firmware upgrade for the 5DMk3 allowed it to be used for that showcase camera...

Thanks for replying. And good luck.
