Center weighted average metering and the imaginary circle

I am a decades long pro Canon film body shooter

adapting to Nikon D800.  I know I can manipulate

the percentage area of the D800's central

circle in center weighted average mode.

However, I don't think the circle areas are

etched into the viewfinder screen, ie you

can't actually see an accurate depiction of the

metering circle in the viewfinder.  Therefore,

it seems as if one must estimate this center

circle area when using average metering

mode in the D800.  Am I missing something?
