If you really want wide for the aps-c get the Tokina AT-X 11-16 Pro DX. It is hands down the best wide angle zoom for crop dslrs. If you plan on upgrading to full frame then do consider the 16-35 or 17-40 from Canon.

My favorite wide with AF is undeniably Canons 14/2.8L. It is amazing for lack of distortion and color rendition as well as fast and sharp. If you can handle manual focus lenses then theremis also a slew of wides to choose from there. I have a full frame so the 16-35II suits me well, however I have to correct for distortion and soft edges as well as vinjetting.
