Okay, you got me, it's not quite 25%.  A friend who shoots Alpha once told me it was 25%--I didn't go look up the specs.  FWIW, the easy way to remember is in dB.  1 stop = 6dB.  1/2 stop = 3dB (~30%).  1/3 stop = 2dB (~20%).

My point was it's way the heck more than the few pixels worth of area consumed by the PDAF in the NEX.

Gotcha. I agree, whatever pixels are lost to PDAF on NEX-5R/NEX-6, they are nothing in comparison to what the translucent mirror takes away from the image in Alpha DSLTs ...

Heck, the NEX-5N and NEX-7 had very weak AA filters, while Alpha DSLTs have quite a medium strength AA filter, adding to the need to sharpen images in post processing.
