PhotoTech was also pretty bummed out by Nikon's policies.

I'd want to verify with one of the bigger name authorized service centers that they, in fact, will not repair those products, or cannot get parts for them, before I took it as 100% gospel, but it partially contradicts my statement that Nikon USA is not forcing people to get repairs from its own service department only. In some  cases, it looks like they might be.

Not sure what the business reasoning could be there. If I owned an authorized independent service center, I think I'd be pretty upset about it.
