Yes, that is how I shoot with AFL on Fn 2 and exposure on shutter button. much like I shot on Canons for years with AF on * button and exposure on shutter button.  It works very well, but I even changed my dials so nearest dial is now exposure and farthest dial is aperture, shutter so that I can dial exposure more easily.  Makes it more ergonomic for me.
