Very subjective quesiton - Niikon 85mm f1.4 versusm 70-200 f2.8 VRII

I thought that I would fish for subtleties to help me make up my miind......

The 85mm is clearly a portrait lens.   The 70-200 is versatile but 4 stops slower.

My problem is that after buying the 85mm f1.8 and now the 85mm f1.4, it looks like I will have to return the f1.4 as well, just as I did the f1.8.

Two camera bodies D800 and D3200, indicate that my eyes can see the difference in picture quality between f1.4, and f2.0, for instance for the 85mm f1.4.  I want to pay this kind of a money that will give me a satisfactory picture wide open.....

I uses a tripod and timer for all tests. MY tripod is quite sturdy and not too susceptible to shake.

If you did not do any portrait work, which lens would you choose?

Yes it is apples and oranges, the two lenses are intended for very different uses.......

Any thoughts?

I should make up my mind before the rebates expire.....
