I personally think there is nothing to worry about.  Why? Nikon uses rather conservative defaults in its factory settings. To see what I mean please go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond7000/21, select to compare Nikon D7k, Canon EOS 7d and Canon EOS 60D in RAW mode at 100 ISO. Now select on the sample image the area with Queen's yellow necklace of black and white dots. What a disappointment, huh? Nikon definitely looks less sharp compared to both Canons. OK, now do this: download the RAW file for Nikon D7k, open it in Capture NX, scale 100%, select the same area. Now here is the magic - select Camera Settings->Picture Control->Standard. Click on Advanced arrow,and observe that the default value for Sharpening is 3. Set it to 6 or 7. Hey!!! See the difference?
