Plastic has a short life, it breaks down

I'm finding plastics that I've had for a while are busting up with exposure to the LA smog, sunlight and just plain limited shelf life. Plastic tends to fall apart sooner than traditional materials like metal and glass.

We re finding out that plastics last a long time in the environment. Look at all the plastic flotsom in the ocean gyres. But the plastic breaks down into smaller and smaller bits for many years before it actually biodegrades.
