Confirmation that prime lenses provide sharper images than zoom lenses?

Cost and complexity

It is more accurate to say that prime will be sharper than a similarly priced zoom. Primes achieve their high image quality because they are less complex to manufacture. To build a zoom with similar IQ requires greater complexity and more parts. If you spend the money you will get great IQ from a zoom, but you could get the same IQ from a much cheaper prime, simply because it is cheaper t make. I have a canon 40mm stm 2.8 and a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM. Both give great IQ but one is vastly more expensive than the other.
