Try setting b6 'fine tune exposure' - should take care of your problem.

ETTR is useful with my Canon bodies, but not with the D800. Strange.

It helps that the D800 has the deepest DR I've seen on a digital body, and I can lift shadows that would have descended into pure noise on a Canon. I think that DR makes ETTR much less important.
