Sony A77 electronic first curtain shutter

It is mentioned in Gary Friedman's book which I have purchased that

electronic first curtain may cause overexposure when  pictures are taken at high shutter speed with older lens w large aperture and need to be turned off

My question is

1> would it be simpler just to use exposure compensation dial

when overexposure is found

2> what is the technical reason why shutter on DSLR cannot be fully

electronic as I assume it is for digital compact or mirrorless cameras

How nice there would be no mechanical wear and tear and no

shutter actuation life to worry about ?

I like Gary Friedman's light hearted writing style . Most official manual these days are not well written- too much on operating steps and too little on background technical explanation .
