Re: Good Canon lens for kids sports photography

Hi there

I had the same challenge a few years ago and purchased the 300/2.8L IS

I know it's big and expensive but it was the best decision I ever took. My shots were so good that parents started paying me $50 to shoot their kids. I must have done about 30 assignments.

At baseball and T-ball I rested the lens on the fence so it's not heavy

I also have the 70-200/4L  and the 135/2L which are both outstanding.

I 100% prefer primes to zooms and just bought the 35/1.4L and will next buy 50/1.2L

Just my 2c

What is a good Canon lens for capturing kids sports? I'm talking 4-5 year old soccer & t-ball & such right now, but obviously more as kids get older. I currently have a Canon Rebel XTi.

I've borrowed the Canon 70-200 2.8L and it's a great lens but kinda heavy. Anything comparable without the bulk or weight that will make me actually want to carry it around on my camera and capture pics from the sidelines? My only lens right now is the 24-70 2.8L and I don't feel it's enough on the telephoto side.
Thanks for your responses.
