The first photo was taken at max wide angle, the second was midrange zoom, and the third was at max 200 power digital. Not bad for hand held. The third photo is the top of the evergreen that is in the center of the fiirst and second photos. Overall, I would say the image is as good as my old SX40, but for birding the extra magnification is certainly helpful. Also, the autofocus is noticeably improved over the last generation. It had rained heavily the night before, and there was still a good deal of moisture in the air, which tends to soften the image a bit.
