Business First! Everyone who is still in line at Dell and Ritz can now step forward one place.

After being run around by both Ritz and Dell, I decided to stop by Frys on the way home. (Many many thanks to Ron/Kvim) The sales guy checked and said they hadn't recieved any yet, but was very excited after I told them that the Austin store had gotten theirs in. He took my name and number and said he would call if they got any in... (They didn't show any on order)

My phone was ringing as I walked in the door when I got home... He said they had just recieved 2 of them and wanted to know if I still wanted it (dumb question!) Picked it up an hour ago!

If you are in Houston, give them a call and see if they still have the other one - as far as I know, I was the only one who asking for them.

The extra bucks for sales tax were a small price to pay for the peace of mind I now have knowing that I have one of my very own! The long wait is over! (I tried to get a D60 before I found out it had been discontinued)

As for Dell and Ritz, good will is won by many acts of good service, and is lost by one act of poor service. However, I don't think either vendor cares because there are 100 people wanting this camera for each one they have to sell... for the time being...

BTW - my first choice was B&H - B&H Rules! But I called on the 28th before they had their act together. By the time they got it together I knew they would be everyone elses first choice too and I would have zero chance of getting one anytime soon from them...

I've been lurking here on and off for about a year - and now I have a reason to post! You are a great group of people and I hope to get to know you all better now that I have come out of lurk mode.!

After the many posts I saw today, I would say the Ritz waiting list is much shorter than a couple days ago. Its a moot point if Ritz never gets a delivery. Canon must have it in for these guys.

Trevor,

Congrats on your 10D, I ordered mine fromn B&H on the 27th 1 hour after they started taking orders(3rd in line). According to Fed-ex tracking it's in Oakland. I'm hoping to pick it up from the fed-ex office tomorow if they send it out from the sorting facility tonight. I don't want to wait for the delivery truck on Monday or even Tuesday(I've had stuff spend al day on the deliverytruck and go back to the fed-ex ofice because it wasn't delivery deadline day. Anyway do you know what was going on at B&H ?. I had no trouble ordering the day before you called them so it is a bit suprising that you had trouble (could it have been the salesman?) Anyway I'm only interested for future reference, perhaps if this happens to me sometime the answer might be to keep on calling back until I get someone who really knows what's going on.

And it's name is "Ritz".

I too was puttin' on the Ritz list. But two weeks later and an amazing refusal to tell me anything but general, vague assurances, I cancelled the order and called J&R and got one ordered with a guaranteed delivery for Tuesday. Had I known Fry's had one, I'd have stopped by on the way home from work. Heck...I drive by the one on I-45 North every day.

I added a lens, battery grip and battery. And I'm ready...I called into the Museum I work at and have scheduled Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as personal days to get to know my new camera.

Need an Oly 2020 or an Oly E10 with Lipo grip in mint condition? Check ebay next week...they'll be there!

Fry's made it all the way over to Houston now huh? I'm impressed. I grew up in Houston (and Louisiana before that) but moved out west for College and beyond. We're accustomed to Fry's out here, and oh do I wish I'd had access to one in Houston when I was living there!

Trevor, thanks to you, I got the second 10D at Fry's. I saw your post last night and could hardly sleep. I called three minutes after they opened and the guy held it for me until I could get there. I promptly cancelled my order at Camera World. WHOO HOO! I'm so happy! Thanks for posting the info.

It's ironic, but the Fry's Electronics stores here in the SF Bay Area, which are in fact the ORIGINAL stores, don't carry the DSLR models. They carry quite a few P&S digital cameras, and quite a few 35mm P&S cameras, but just a couple of 35mm SLR models, and no DSLR cameras.

I think the Fry's stores in Texas were originally part of the INCREDIBLE UNIVERSE chain that Fry's bought out a few years ago. I wonder if maybe they have never quite integrated everything together with the original stores.

Well, at any rate, I'm glad you got yours! I've decided to hold out until I can get the 1Ds, but otherwise I'd probably be trying to track down a 10D for myself.

I'll probably head down their later today to pick up some DVD-RAM and ink for my printer.

Trevor,
(I've had stuff spend al day on the deliverytruck and
go back to the fed-ex ofice because it wasn't delivery deadline
day.
I have had FedEx put a package on the truck, notify me by email it was out "out for delivery" and then not deliver it and return it to the warehouse because "it got there a day earlier than had been paid for".

I absolutely could not/cannot believe they would DELIBERATELY tell a customer "we have it - but - NYAA - NYAA - we won't give it to you because the shipper did not pay for early delivery!"

As a businessperson myself I don't have a problem with them holding delivery to the paid-for time frame...but to email that it is on the truck for delivery and then not deliver it seems purposefully offensive - I guess it comes from being in a semi-monopoly position.

What can you do? ...nothing.

I didn't mean it to sound as if I was slamming fed-ex. I've had very good experience with them (unlike Dale Jarret's NASCAR sponsor). They didn't e-mail me about it being out for delivery, I found out by the tracking (it was estimated to be delivered that day but the guaratee was for monday). I imagine that there wasn't enough time that day to deliver the package without going into OT so it went back to the office. Fortuately I was able to go to the office and pick it up that night so I wouldn't have had to wait until monday for delivery.

As an update on my current situation I called fed-ex today, my 10d is still in a container at Oakland waiting to be sorted, so I can't even drive over there to pick it up (although I might try on Monday). I've got an assignment next weeked so it's going into full use very quickly and I could do with all the practice with it I can get.
