Askey NOT trustworthy

After reading everybody's comments about Phil and his business practices, I started to wonder why he has not posted any news about Nikon's newest addition.

Let's see how the S50 stacks up against this monster!

Borrowed from the Nikon Talk Forum.

I can hardly wait!!!!!!
Bravo, Pete. You're a clown. [Naturally, not "Pete Miller" a new
visitor, but someone who visits and posts here regularly under
another name.]

Be careful, Pete. Your mommy might not like you antagonizing
people like this.

Boy boy boy, remember the rule!Askey is just a human being, it's need time to post onto this forum, though I am not showing any sympathy for you Phil, and I do agree that sometime his review showes some tendency to any brand, but that exactly our brain has to do right?, think think think, then compare :),there are plenty of sites which also give us review,steve-digicam for example, just grow up man
S50 news have been out for two days, yet there's no mention of it
on this website. Other sites have been informing of it in spite of
their own Canon embargos. How is that possible? Respecting embargo
is one thing, acting like Canon's own marketing department and
ignoring reality another. It only goes to show who's in cahoot with
who, and it'd be wise to take that into consideration next time you
read a "Highly Recomended" rating on this site. I have been
questioning Askey's ratings for quite some time, but this really
shows who he's working for.

Regarding Canon: what the hell is the deal with S50? How stupid do
they think people are? Reusing the same old camera with the
occaional change of colors and marketing it each time as a
different model.

As if the whole S45 scam wasn't bad enough.......now this? Sure,
there will be morons cancelling their S45 orders and returning
those they already bought. But surely most of the picturetaking
population can't be that gullable and easily manipulated. What
Canon is doing is insulting and they should not get away with it.

SO WHAT!!!

You won't get a price or your hands on a S50 or A70 any quicker through leaks. Even review test cameras are not factory issue. Go ahead and rush it like Nikon did. Maybe you can still find a deal on a gray market pre-production CP5000 locked up with a lens cap before software upgrade. There's a fun time.
Reusing the same old camera with the occaional change of colors and marketing it each time as a different model.
If you want to prove nothing changes between models why don't you buy 2 cameras and take them apart for comparison?

If you want to worry about something worry about the camera release which has worse picture quality than it's previous model.

You should own 1 Canon camera so you can take the edge off making media leaks a newbie buyer panic issue.

If you don't like the way economics presently works remember that 5% percent of the population manipulates 95% of the money as they see fit. Change that and you change the World. Want to change the World then support the True NESARA Law.

This a good example of why Phil does not post rumors. If something like this were to become public knowledge there is no telling the damage it might do to this site. Do you have any proof of your outrageous claim?

I'm not into conspiracy theories, but before I bought my 230, I wondered why there were so few indoor pictures in the sample pages of the various models. (see the 330 for example) Bad flash? Bad no flash? So stick to showing the outdoor shots. Hmmm??

Be fair thang, every site should have a "bum", Keep up the good work Phil, enjoy the site very much, sorry peter is leaving us!
Frankly dpreview has traditionally been the last one to anounce
things (FinePix F700 case in point) and always far behind the
others with its camera reviews. Not to mention the quality of the
reviews. Imaging-resource and Steve's Digicams are a lot better. I
have no appreciation for Askey's laboratory test shots, as they
prove nothing. I'm sure even Fords are great cars in vaccuum
conditions. What's worse, his real life test shots that one needs
to judge a camera are not comparable, hence wortless as well.
Let me be sure I understand you here. You are making the claim
that Phil, by honoring an agreement, has proven himself to be
untrustworthy. Now if he broke the agreement that would make him a
trustworthy individual in your eyes. Ok fess up. You work for
dubya don't you.

Erm, NDA? Yes I'm well aware that the S50 was accidentally leaked by Walmart who rapidly removed it from their site. But as I'm under an NDA there's nothing I can add to what you've seen already without breaching my NDA. If you want the latest news and previews of early products then we have to get involved in NDA's, fact of life in this business.

Trustworthy is a strong word, I suggest you think before you post next time.

Ah, someone who gets it...

When it comes to NDA's and Embargo's it's simply not in our interests to break them and risk not getting info or review products in the future. But that has NO EFFECT on my ability to review products in a critical manner... I think anyone who has followed this site for any amount of time (or read more than one review) would agree that I have no problem digging out the problems that most other sites miss or ignore.
Somebody new to the community and the first series of posts are of
this nature. -hummm something doesn't add up-

Yes - Phil straddles the fence a bit between Consumer and
Manufacturer's Advocate. I believe he does it in good faith, to be
able to continue to provide this site for free and make a living.

There are other sites of this nature, and if you don't subscribe to
Phil's appraoch please go there.

End rant...

if it makes any difference to anyone, 'askey NOT trustworthy' is
coming from someone whose two total posts are inside this thread.
:) oh well it doesnt really matter. i think phils reviews are
worthwhile and i enjoy reading them. obviously he cant test every
condition the camera would be in and how it can perform - or else
hed still be reviewing the canon pro 70. i think phils
contribution in the digital camera websites arena [couldnt think or
a better word :(] is great. each site shows us different things,
all are helpful. by the way, phil is paying me to write nice
things about this site, but i wasnt supposed to tell. oops!

Only that information which has been revealed, and nothing more. We have considerably more information on said products and thus it would be pointless me revealing a couple of details here a couple of details there. Wait a few days and the entire range will be revealed.
and as you can see...

http://www.digitalkamera.de/Info/News/16/82.htm

It is out in the open... he's just a little slow, that's all.....
It’s quite evident he has trouble staying on top of all the news....

I am quite sure there is a Non-Disclosure Agreement involved
between Canon UK and Phil, as it is with many others out there.

My grin is splitting my ears after reading the responses to Pete Miller's blast.

Does he work for a competing website or is he a psychology major doing a random test to see how much response this kind of whiny, BS, ill-informed post gets?

Bill

My 2 cents: I have looked at several other review sites and I still find Phil's reviews to be the best. Mainly because of his regimented approach - do the same tests with each camera so you can compare apples to apples. Someone's suggestion that we need "real world" photos not labaoratory tests to judge a camera does not understand anything about "scientific method" that we all (some) learned in school. I appreciate the effort that goes into this site and the reviews. I would trust Phil more than the average person - and I've never met the man!

Larry

Let?s see now - over a post, about a digital camera - a consumer digital camera, by a guy who must have way too much time on his hands - this thread has ventured off into:

Questioning of world events like moon landings. ( gee that was a reach )

Political conspiracy theories over assassinations. (anybody posting here on that commission?)

The questioning of a man?s integrity who runs this website. ( Miller - best just leave the site if this is the way you feel )

The breaking of signed contracts (NDA?s) because of some ?Little Kid?s? mind level that thinks "HE" has the right to know everything right now and it is everyone's job to provide him with that information.

Bashing of our current president. ( totally uncalled for and why here ? )

Economic theory based on R&D and production ( good point by the way )

Web development. ( Miller needs to start his own - it will have a following of one )

Aren't cameras just tools to take pictures with ? It seems like almost a religion with some people. They're just pictures........

??????????????????
SOLUTION
??????????????????

From now on when Miller posts here - just ignore him. That is what the garbage like he posted is worth....

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzz

Thanks Phil for your work and site -

I garner a large amount of information from this site. From you and other sane users.

http://www.dpreview.com/misc/about.asp

It's easy for me to forget it's obviously quite a demanding challenge to run this site and add some intensive camera reviews. Breaking Non Disclosure Agreements would make test camera reviews impossible.

The site seems balanced in it's life. It allows coverage of our lives. Our victories, our defeats, and all of it stored in memory. Is there anybody else in here except us?

Oh there is friction and it occurs when we strain for a want to improve our world and the recording of it day to day. There is so much to be improved that nothing less than an assurance it will be so is good enough.

Peace and prosperity to all for the best we can experience going forward! Spring is around the corner!

cmon, give the guy a break. i'm sure he isnt using this website as the sole means for a luxurious income. you shouldnt base your purchases solely on his reviews anyhow. i'd never consider jst one person's opinion. consider the other major review sites to get a bigger input base.

and we shouldnt trust your knowledge of the agreement phil has with mfg companies. did you have a chance to review his specific contract?

That makes him trustworthy in my book.

I don't need the info when it's in the gossip, rumor mongering stage. I just want detailed, picky reviews, and this site delivers better than anywhere else.

Plus they are much better wriitten than any other site out there.

It's a great site, considering what you pay for it.

Well, you've pushed your buttons. Hope you are happy to have gotten the rise out of everyone.
