I don't know if it's any help, but Mifsuds are listing a Mint- boxed 300mm f/2.8 VRII for £3500, with a new one listed at £4200. Based on that kind of variation (approx 20% reduction in price), it wouldn't be unsurprising for them to be looking at around £5250 as a listing price. Factor in the cost of sending it to be serviced, providing a guarantee, VAT (on the difference between purchase and sale price), and anticipated profit, and you can work out what you think they should be giving you for it.
