Show Your Snaps...October 1, 2012

We invite you again to show your own snapshots or even choice pictures. Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each other and it's fun to share too.

On both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend, I went out looking for wildlife at two of our wildlife preserves. It was a lot of fun. Sometimes, there is nothing much going on, but other times we are lucky when we find those good photo ops. But we never know unless we try. Every time, I find it's different. I found lots of geese, small birds, ducks, heron and deer.

When you see these I hope some of you realize that even with the inexpensive kit lenses, that you can get good wildlife photos. Some day I'd like to get the 100-400L lens, but that is going to take a lot of maybe by next year I'll have more reach. But it's good enough for now.

We will start a new thread for this every week now due to the popularity. I'll be sure to comment also to your images, if you choose to share. Thanks everyone for your participation.

Photo No. 1 - Here's where I first saw some geese take flight. There were hundreds of them.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO200, F11, 1/1000, 55mm FL

Photo No. 2 - While I walked along this reservoir, I found a wild duck rapidly trying to get further away from me. I cropped this heavily to make it look like I was using one of those more powerful expensive lenses.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO200, F11, 1/400, 250mm FL

Photo No. 3 - The geese had landed over here in great numbers. You all can see that our leaves are slow to change colors this year, but now we have some yellow leaves showing.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO100, F13, 1/100, 55mm FL

Photo No. 4 - Here's a closer look. That's a cornfield in the background.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO400, F13, 1/640, 90mm FL

Photo No. 5 - This is a photo of one of my favorite small bird images, but I accidentally didn't increase the focal length further. So I had to crop it a little to get close.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO400, F14, 1/400, 154mm FL

Photo No. 6 - I was lucky that this great blue heron let me get close enough for a nice photo. I cropped it some for composition. I had a high shutter speed in case I could capture it flying.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO800, F16, 1/1250, 250mm FL

Photo No. 7 - This deer and I surprised each other. I quickly snapped the picture, but it didn't stay around more than a few seconds.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO800, F16, 1/640, 135mm FL

Photo No. 8 - Here's the same deer or another one that was nearby. This one seemed thinner. I thought it was the same one, but now I have my doubts.

Canon T2i (550D), 55-250mm IS lens, ISO800, F16, 1/250, 250mm FL

Canon EOS 550D (EOS Rebel T2i / EOS Kiss X4)
