I bought the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 (non VC) and very happy with the images coming from it so far. It's not the quickest focusing lens in the world but fast enough for my needs in most situations. Colours, contrast and detail are all pretty good and it's sharp.

Here are a few examples taken with my D7000 and this lens.
