the new 24-70 II is weird in that it seems to almost require close to hyperfocal focusing to get everything sharp otherwise the DOF seems to slant forward at the edges (like the 100% opposite of the old 24-70 almost)

I misread the email, it dos not arrive until Wed. Rats, I was really hyped.

As to focus, learning the quirks of Canon lenses for landscape is harder than it tough to be. My Ziess 50 f1.4 just focuses period. Even my super sharp TSE lenses will produce soft edges at the same time everything in the middle is sharp from near to far. But if I work life view at the edge just right, I can get it all sharp.

What I find is that if I get close to hyperfocal for subject distance, and have a good high contrast target, I usually nail focus. Not always easy to find such targets in practice, especially in dark scenes.

What I see when I open the image and view it at 100% is very important to my overall attitude toward a final print. When I look at the print I know what’s there and what I had to do to get there. For me, good enough does not work.
