  • The mirror would have to be thicker to avoid breaking when flipped up or down, thus negating that particular advantage of your idea.

  • Mirror slap would again become a problem; say goodbye to shooting handheld between 1/2 and 1/15.

  • You'd have to have space to flip the mirror to, thus negating the size and ergonomics advantage of SLTs.

  • It'd be useless in video anyways.

And all that in exchange for... what? 1/3 of a stop's worth of noise. Not worth it.

Just go and wait for the next generation of sensors if you really need better high ISO that much. But by then you'll probably want even better high ISO performance like the by-then current SLR competition, thus showing that extra 1/3 of a stop is not something you need , merely something you lust after .
