Softbox for a strobist setup

In the process of starting to build up a portable flash setup (Canon 580EX II and 430EX Speedlites) I'm trying to decide on a softbox. I've considered Lastolite's Ezybox but recently wondered if something more round like a Photoflex Octodome would be the way to go for a more flattering catchlight. Opinions on this?

Furthermore I also have a studio light setup (Elinchrom BXRi 500 strobes) and it would be great to put modifiers to double use (I think there are Speedlite adapters for Elinchrom gear available) but have also read that due to the difference in shape and placement of the two strobes you should use dedicated softboxes for each system. Is this true?
