So I honestly have no idea what happened. All I know is that i'm, no pun intended, totally screwed because I took off all the screws without memorizing or writing down where they actually go.

Well, so, was it now the battery or the flash that messed up the camera?

In any case, why don't you test the voltage of your flash to be safe?
