I recommend to get a bridge camera and attach a close-up lens, the build-in lenses in all compact cameras are not designed for macro only, so you'll get poor results.
I used before a Sony H1 with this close-up lens:

It was a great combo for macro.

Canon has some great close-up lenses that can be used for different thread sizes:

Canon S5 IS, Sx10IS, SX1IS would do the job.

The problem is that these bridges are also big, SLR like, so if you're looking for really compact cameras, check the ones listed in the first link.
