• Doubling width from 100 = 200

• Doubling height from 100 = 200

• When you resample 200% it does so in both directions

• MP is determined by multiplying those two numbers together

• That is why to double resolution (detail) of a 22mp sensor you would need an 88mp sensor.

I think I understand where some of the miss-communication has come from here and tried to outline it in a new post. Perhaps an easier way to think of it is not how many more PIXELS 36mp has over 22mp but how much more detail. Does that make it clearer?
