@ariston and @jonathonj: Very good responses, and I mostly agree with 'em.
BUT wrt who is copying whom, well since Apple (ostensibly) isn't even in the camera biz, then even the most over-zealous legal counsel couldn't accuse the existing players of copying something that doesn't exist (yet). And if Samsung builds the NX-R first, then it's lay-down Misère.
And wrt Apple having no experience in the biz, well I expect they're so cashed-up they could probably buy (say) Olympus or Sony imaging division(s) out of their morning-tea money if they chose to. Same goes for Samsung too I guess.
the recent partnership between Olympus and Sony put a stop to that idea. besides, I can't think of any benefits that either company would get from Apple. it would run the same problem as Samsung did being a new market player. the only difference is that Samsung can produce it's own sensor and has some blueprints acquired from Pentax on making cameras and lenses. an acquisition and a camera division that Samsung is able to benefit from. I'm not saying that Apple can't enter the camera market, I'm saying that I highly doubt that Apple will become successful as a camera brand.
